I have a lifetime of training and experience in many forms of dance and movement. Teaching Pilates and dance since my early 20s I've had the privilege of working with diverse communities. From my early life as a young ballerina with the San Francisco Ballet; earning a BA in Dance Ethnology at San Francisco State University; becoming a Pilates teacher at 24; performing through my 20s and 30s as a professional dancer with dance companies in the SF Bay Area, adopting the surfing lifestyle in my 40s, and earning a MS in Health and Wellness Management with University of Wisconsin, Pilates has been the foundation for everything I have aspired to do.
In 2000 I was trained and certified in classical Pilates with Master Teacher Carol Appel, a trainee of Romana Kryzanawska, With additional certifications in PreggoPilates, Pilates for Osteoporosis, TRX, NeuroKinetic therapy, and Holistic Lifestyle Coaching L1 (CHEK Institute) and continuing education in Pilates based rehab methods I've never stopped learning. As an undergraduate studying cultural and folkloric dance traditions from around the world I learned that people live and connect in different ways but we all share in the most essential life experiences. Through the masters program I've been able to synthesize my background with current thinking and methodology in health and well being programming, bringing another level of coaching to my practice.
Over the last 20 years, highlights in my career include insightful workshops and courses with Pilates Elders Kathy Grant, Ron Fletcher, Lolita San Miguel, Eve Gentry's protege Michele Larrson, Master teachers Carol Appel, Rael Isacowitz, Elizabeth Larkam, Sherri Betz, Dawn Marice-Ickes, and Jean Sullivan. I'm grateful to have had fantastic teaching opportunities with cast members of Cirque du Soleil during the tour of CORTEO in 2005; teaching prenatal Pilates, dance, and art for the SFUSD Pregnant Minors Program at Hilltop High School in SF; teaching modern dance, ballet, and Pilates for Destiny Arts Center's after school program in Oakland, and for aspiring competitive divers with DiveLab in Novato, CA. I spent 2019 living in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, where I taught fitness and Pilates for two exclusive ladies' gyms, working predominantly with Emirati women.
Being a teacher of health, well being, and movement has given me great joy throughout my life. My practice now encompasses work towards thriving in the 7 dimensions of wellness - physical, social, emotional, intellectual, occupational, environmental, and spiritual.
